| The
Blade II 4.0m is one of a range of "new" kites from Flexifoil.
The original Blade range has been improved, extended and now sports new
colour schemes. Apart from the simple but "classy" colours the
Blade II has the inlet gauze extended further towards the tips to maintain
inflation which helps to prevent tip collapse. This was more noticeable
on the original range and in particular the 4.9m and 7.2m although we
never felt it was a problem and was only really evident in light winds
and slow turns. Flexifoil have continued to ensure that the construction is excellent despite its simplicity and the backpack is even more useful with pockets for lines and a stake ! The 4.0m is an excellent midrange size which was lacking in the original range and will fly in virtually no wind up to 20mph+. There's still a small tendancy for the tips to curl up but only in the lightest of winds and when the kite is held at the edge of the window or when its "parked" in the air using the brakes. The 4.0m hasn't got the power of the 4.9 but is very manageable and less demanding. As we've found on the buggy the 4m excells in 15mph+ winds but it has a fairly high sideways pull and not quite the upwind performance of racing kites such as the Libre Bora. However it is superb for jumping, scudding and general traction kite activities. Manouverability and control in light winds is excellent - enough for some "revolution type" aerobatics as I demonstrated in Watergate Bay recently !! |
